Now the rush is over from the splendid weather we had last week I thought I would give you an insight into the current range of guest ales we have to offer, its National cask ale week as well so what better reason do you need to pop down and try out some of these:-

Wychwood Bountiful 4.0% abv Bring on the harvest season when the Earth’s bounties are shared. Celebrate with this ale of tremendous complexity delivering a rich fruity taste and a stack of chestnut colour.

Davenports (Highgate) Pheasant plucker 4.1%abv. A smooth well balanced copper coloured ale, brewed with pale crystal and wheat malts. Bitterness is provided using English grown Challenger and Fuggle hops

Hancock’s Counting Sheep 3.8%abv. This hoppy beer pulls no punches and the aroma gives up spicy, bitter and fuity notes that are balanced by a very subtle, malty sweetness. However the finish is crisp, dry and fruity making it very moreish.

Harviestoun Hoptober Fest 4.0%abv. http://www.harviestoun.com/ Made using fresh unkilned or “green” hops. The result is a unique flavour which can only be obtained during the hop harvest.

Back by popular demand St Austell Tribute

Tribute 4.2% abv

A Supreme Champion Ale of Cornwall as voted by CAMRA*, and the South West’s Favourite cask beer**, Tribute is a popular favourite with locals and visitors to Cornwall, as well as being a much sought after brand throughout the rest of the UK. It is brewed using specially grown Cornish Gold Malt.

For foodies, Tribute is a perfect accompaniment to chicken, gammon or fish. The ideal alternative to a fine white wine.

Roger Protz, Editor Good Beer Guide, wrote: “Tribute is a magnificent example of a bronze coloured English bitter, with a rich aroma of biscuity malt and tart citrus fruit from the Willamette hops. Juicy malt, hop resins and tangy fruit coat the tongue, while the finish is long and lingering, with a fine balance between malt, hops and fruit, finally becoming dry and bitter.”

Awarded a Silver Medal at the Taste of the West Awards 2009

Winner of the SIBA South West awards 2007

Voted Supreme Champion Cornish Ale, CAMRA Falmouth Beer Festival 2004

Finally we are back to getting our guest ales list through monthly so we can notify you of the selection we will have available each month in one go rather than annoying you with constant updates, so here goes for July.

Brew Dog brewery Alpha Dog 4.55 abv A rock and roll medley of Summer fruit and pine gives way to hints of roasted malt and a heady hoppiness, but with very low bitterness.

Caledonian Oktoberbest 4.5% abv

An Oktoberfest, Marzen style beer brewed using the finest continental malt types and hops. Copper red ale with full bodied maltiness, a subtle dry and spicy hop finish.

Old Mill Brewery Fall Over 4.5% abv

Made from a complex of ale and rye malts, Challenger & First Gold hops makes this a delicious session beer, that just slips down.

Camerons 6th Sense 6.0% abv

6th Sense was named after the many ghost stories and legends surrounding the historic Camerons Brewery site which has been in Hartlepool since 1865. This award winning beer has a chestnut brown colour and delicate floral aroma finished off with a smooth malty taste.

Marstons Wicked Witch 4.7% abv

Brewed around the time of All Hallows’ eve. The recipe is a dark secret but eye of newt and wing of bat are hard to come by these days. A rich russet brown coloured beer with malt and hop flavours combining to make an autumnal delight with a warming character.

Adnams Ghost Ship 4.5% abv

Ghostly pale blonde and very hoppy. This beer has good assertive pithy bitterness with a malty backbone and lemon and lime aroma. Brewed with some Pale Ale malt, Crystal malt, Munich and some Wheat malt. Columbus and Chinook hops are used along with a new hop called Citra, responsible for adding great lime flavours.
