Parcel plea for Worthing troops

SOLDIERS from Worthing serving in Afghanistan will be among those to benefit from parcels packed with treats and essentials.

The Worthing Lions Club has launched its parcel appeal after sending 600 out to our troops last year.

This time, the Lions hope to fill at least 200 parcels with things like biscuits and toothpaste and send them to Afghanistan in time for Christmas.

Tony Holley, from the Lions, said: “We believe there are 20 local lads with the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment who are serving in Afghanistan.

“We are asking people to donate what they can, even if it’s just a packet of biscuits or £1. For £10, we can make up a parcel.”

Among the items the troops have requested are: crisps, jelly sweets, peanuts, cakes, peanut butter and biscuits.

They would also like toothpaste, razors, shower gel and wet wipes as well as cheap Biro pens to give to the local children.

People can take donations to the Lions shop in George V Avenue or to the John Selden and Charles Dickens pubs in Salvington Road and Heene Road respectively.

There will also be collection trolleys outside local supermarkets.

Whiskey Tasting Evening 16th September 2010

DALMORE AND ISLE OF JURA WHISKEY.

We are holding our first whiskey tasting evening on Thursday 16th September 2010, we have chosen the Dalmore and the Isle of Jura range for this event. The evening will commence with a tasting session and we will then serve a three course Scottish meal and all for the fantastic price of £12.95. Numbers are limited to a maximum of 20 people co please reserve you table promptly to avoid disappointment.

All profits from this evening will go to the Worthing Lions & Charles Dickens appeal fund 2010.

Charity Fundraising 2010

So far this year the find raising by the Worthing Lions and ourselves has reached nearly five thousand pounds this means that we have passed the half way mark of the nine thousand pound target that will enable Canine Partners to purchase and train a new dog that will radically change the life of a disabled person. If you could help in any way with fund-raising, or would like to donate any copper change you can spare we would be most grateful.

2010 Charity fundraising

We are pleased to announce that we have decided to raise money in conjunction with the Worthing Lions to support Canine Partners.

Our target for this year is £9000 this will purchase a puppy and allow for its training we very much hope that you will support us with our fund raising efforts throughout the year, if you have any ideas on ways we can raise money we would be pleased to hear your ideas.

On Thursday 28th January the Worthing Lions presented the Motor cycle to the Bloodrunners. This was purchased with the monies raised throughout 2009 by the Charles Dickens and Worthing lions.

MacMillan Cancer care Coffee Morning

Friday 25th September 2009 we will be taking part in the Worlds biggest coffee morning, call in for free tea or coffee and biscuits, all we ask is that you make a donation. This offer will be available until 3.00pm for more details visit the MacMillan cancer care web site.

Charity Motorised Treasure Hunt – 20th September 2009

On Sunday 20th September 2009 we will be holding a charity motorised treasure hunt, followed by a free BBQ after the treasure hunt.

The treasure hunt will start from the Charles Dickens, Heene road, Worthing at 2pm

£5 per car for a team of two
£7.50 per car for a team of four

Registration for the event must be completed by Friday 18th September at 6pm. Please call 01903 820972 or pop into the pub to register or if you have further questions.

All monies raised will be donated towards our Bloodrunners Appeal (http://www.serv.org.uk) in association with Worthing Lions.

Charity Fundraising

At the Charles Dickens we have decided that we will support the Worthing Lions and that all monies raised for charity will be channelled through them.

Currently we have set ourselves the challenge of raising the sum of five thousand pounds which will be used by the Worthing Lions to purchase a motorcycle for SERV Service by Emergency Rider Volunteers. Registered Charity 284455. SERV are also referred to as the Bloodrunners, they deliver emergency blood products, samples and other items during the night, every night, free of charge to Hospitals.
