‘The Signalman’ Storytelling event to commemorate Charles Dickens
What better place to celebrate the bi-centennial of our greatest storyteller than the only pub in Worthing named after him!
Join us downstairs at the Charles Dickens on Wednesday 8th February for an adapted re-telling of the most atmospheric of ghost stories, ‘The Signalman’. Told by candlelight, this promises to be an unsettling half hour, so make sure you’ve got a drink in hand before taking your seat.
Doors open just before 8:00 pm. After a brief introduction, the story will commence. No latecomers will be admitted once the performance is underway.
This is a free event brought to you by Listen Up! - local storytellers based in Worthing. Open to over 18s only. Come and listen!
Greetings and best wishes for a great celebration on the eighth. On the 6th, there will be a fine programme about Charles Dickens helping Great Ormond Street Hospital- we filmed it at the hospital and in the Drawing Room at the Doughty Street Museum; it’s on ‘Inside Out’ BBC1 on 6th Feb at 7.30 pm. There will also be a formal wreathlaying at Westminster Abbey on the 7th.
This was my first visit ever to the Charles Dickens in Worthing , especially for the Signalman story telling event . it was a very enjoyable occasion and such a novel idea to celebrate the bi-centennial of the author. I found the pub to have a charming ambience, friendly staff and the lasagne was excellent and value for money ….10 out of 10 for a great evening !
Really enjoyed the story telling. Great atmosphere with the candles and story well told. Would certainly attend if another event was to be put on. Thanks and well done.
Thank you for an excellent evening. The venue was perfect for the telling of a ghost story and Carol Hunter provided what was probably the perfect Dickens story for the candlelit basement. I look forward to future events of this kind and hope that the pub can make this a regular feature.
What a great way to celebrate Dickens’ bi-centennial. A spooky story told brilliantly by Carol Hunter. We both had a super evening in this welcoming pub. Can’t wait for the next storytelling event and will keep an eye on the website!
Thoroughly enjoyed the story telling by Carol Hunter – great atmosphere – and verfy friendly pub. Look forward t o future events. Joy
